Is Sex Important In A Relationship?
Is sex important in a relationship? The short answer is, no. It's not important for a relationship to succeed and thrive. It depends on the two people in the relationship. If you communicate then you don’t need sex for a long-lasting relationship. You do need to figure out where each of you stands on the subject. If you're not open about your desires are lack thereof it can create problems later on.
People are afraid to talk about sex. The topic of sex should not make or break a relationship. You can create intimacy and closeness with or without sex. There are different levels of closeness but you must communicate to get to them. To find a type of “sex” that works for you and your partner. In some cases, this means no sex, and that’s okay!
When going into a relationship know who you are. Never pressure someone to be the same as you if they’re not. Often people know how they feel about sex and feel they can change the other person into what they want. You can change a lot about a person. Not their sex drive, unless that's something they want to work on. You can change their choice of jeans but not their libido. If you're asexual it's not a good idea to try and change someone who is a nymphomaniac. It’s not going to work.
You can’t put sexuality in a box. Some people have sex every day, some once in a while, others wait for marriage and some never have sex. I couldn’t wait until marriage, I like to test drive before making a decision. But that’s me and sex is important to me. See that? I know who I am and what I want. So when I date someone they know where I stand. Regardless of your sexual preference be confident in it.
You’ll find a lot of happy people in different types of relationships. It’s all about the right connection and being open about your needs. Be true to yourself and you’ll find the person that fits your level of intimacy.
