What Self Care Looks Like

Self-care is a word thrown around a lot lately. To the point that it’s become a way for brands to sell you products that you don’t need. At its core, self-care is what you need to take care of your mental wellbeing. To some people that is a walk in nature and to others it's a day at the spa. I am a huge fan of both, to be honest. A little luxury with some hippy-dippy. Remember, self-care is whatever you need to help you function healthily. I’m going to break down my personal self-care favorites.

Drinking water first thing in the morning

I always drink water before my coffee to start my day. I like to upgrade my water by adding turmeric, lemon, or honey. I find that water helps jump-start my day. It's good for clarity and getting your organs moving in the morning.

Meditation and Stretching

I meditate first thing in the morning. You can do this by using an app or timing yourself for a few minutes. 5-10 minutes is a good place to start. I received a free trial of the Calm app through my credit card. Which worked in helping to form the habit. I follow up my meditation by going into about 5 minutes of stretching.

Hobbies

I have an addiction to collecting hobbies. I've come to realize doing a hobby with no goal is great. Enjoy the process of learning something new without any pressure. For instance, I play guitar and have been doing so for many years. I do it for me not because I want to play in a band or have a concert.

Hype Yourself Up

Give yourself a confidence boost. Every day compliment yourself. Big or small, celebrate your accomplishments. You don’t need people to believe in you if you believe in yourself.

Dance Parties

When I was little I would have full-on pop concerts in the living room by myself. To the point that my parents got a headset mic for me. I find that dance parties alone in my room bring back childlike energy and fun. If you‘re feeling down that's even more reason to put on some jams.

Take a walk

I take a walk a few days a week. It’s great what getting outside will do for you. Getting in nature is my favorite way to clear my mind. If I can get to a beach and see the waves on the water even better.
